Don't Chimp my Nudge

"Don't chimp my nudge."

In the English language this has no meaning at all. I would assume the same for the vast number of other languages in the world.

To Caelan this means:

"Don't pinch my bum."

Chimp=pinch
Nudge=top of the thigh where it connects to the bum.

Now presenting (not for the first time), Caelan does Gaga.

Did Somebody Call 911?

So this is another oldie but a goodie.

December 2009

We had just moved into our new place, we had only met a few of our neighbours, we hadn't even unpacked.

Caelan made the decision that she wanted to direct and star in her own zombie film.
Her daddy makes all kinds of scary props, masks and does a lot of FX makeup so she had everything at her disposal and full creative control.

He took her outside, ready to film.

In the back yard Caelan hunched over a pile of latex arms and legs covered in cinema blood and acted as the best little zombie I have ever seen.
She directed her cameraman to follow her because now she was going to run, grunting, into the house where her older sister was waiting to play her part.
The idea was that dad was going to video tape like he was running away from her, like she was trying to get him, he would run into the house followed by zombie Caelan and then she would see her sister sitting on the couch and attack her, Claudia would scream and the movie would be over.

It was a family affair.

After about 20 minutes, Caelan got tired of being a zombie and wanted to take a bath and get washed off.

What we didn't know was that one of our neighbours was watching out of his window, saw Caelan covered in blood and a pile of...of something on the patio covered in blood and thought she was in trouble and called 911.

While Caelan was warm and sudsy in her bath an ambulance was pulling up to our door.

A paramedic knocked.

"What's that in your yard?"

"Uhhh, those are props."

"Ok, well the police have also been called so you can expect them along shortly."

The police never came.

When Children Swear

Playing "Toy Story" as she does everyday she just yelled out

"You rotten bitches!!"

I gasped, she dropped her toys to face me. Not exactly sure what was going on she just stared at me, her little mouth twitching as she tried not to cry.

"Where did you hear that Caelan?" I asked with my hand over my mouth, because it is really hard not to laugh when something like this happens.

"I don't know." Twitching mouth and a shaky voice.

"You didn't know that was a bad word, did you?"

"Noooooo!" she dove into my lap, now bawling her little face off.

"Let's not say that again."

I don't think she'll say that again.

Traumatized by a swear.

Parenting win.

A Brand New Kingdom

Once upon a time there was a little girl, her name was Caelan and she knew everything about everything.

Caelan tries so hard to understand and participate in the world around her, and with much encouragement we have decided that she is too good not to share.
I know, I know, all parents think that their children are the funniest, most precious and most beautiful, but in our case it's true.

Because this is so new and Caelan's awesomeness has been going on for nearly five years, I will be doing a lot of back-tracking. So to those who have already heard all of this, I hope you enjoy it just as much this time.

Stories, drawings, quotes and videos to follow.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Caelan's likes include: Toy Story, zombies, dancing, dresses, hot dogs, drawing and sculpting.

Dislikes include: Everything else.

I made brown sugar glazed salmon for dinner in the hopes that our picky eater would like it. Come on it's covered in sugar! She refused to swallow it, she would chew it but she kept telling us that her mouth wouldn't let her swallow it. (She got that from eating celery. You know when little kids try to chew it but it ends up a stringy mess in their mouth. Now she has decided that if she doesn't want to eat something she just has to claim that she can't swallow it.)

Me: "Caelan, just swallow it we all did and we're fine!"

Caelan: "You guys don't even know my life!!"

Caelan with her own version of "The Zombie Dance--So You Think You can Dance -- Ramalama (bang bang)"

February 2, 2011

Caelan and I were doing some reading work, words that end with "at".
The first word was "bat" and Caelan's sentence was "Bat, like you hit a zombie with a bat."
